Command Sgt. Maj. James F. Seifert Jr. is from Fortson, Georgia. He enlisted in the United States Army as an 11B on July 8, 2003, where he underwent OSUT and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga.
Seifert’s previous assignments include Company B, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Company D, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade; Company A and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Ranger Training Battalion; Company B, C and HHC, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry; HHC Brigade, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division; Observer Controller – Trainer (OC/T), Joint Multinational Readiness Center; HHC Brigade, 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade.
Seifert has held every leadership position from fire team leader to platoon sergeant in multiple infantry companies and the first sergeant of Company C and Headquarters and Headquarters Company in battalion and brigade. He most recently served as the brigade operations sergeant major for the 173rd and currently is the command sergeant major for 1-91 Cavalry (Airborne). Additionally, Command Sgt. Maj. Seifert has held positions as a Ranger instructor, battalion S-3 Air, and OC/T.
Seifert’s deployments include five prior tours of duty to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VI, VIII, X and XIII, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
Seifert’s military and civilian education includes Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Master Leader Course and Sergeants Major Course Class 73. He has also completed Airborne School, the U.S. Army Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Battle Staff NCO Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Tactical Certification Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Mountain Warfare School, Stryker Leader Course, OC Academy, and Combat Lifesaver Course. He is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in leadership and workforce development.
Seifert’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal (seventh award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one silver service star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 5, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (seventh award), the NATO Medal with one bronze service star, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Basic, Senior and Master Parachutist Badges, the Pathfinder Badge, and the Italian and Chilean Parachutist Badges. He is also the recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice (Centurion).
Seifert is married to Viktoria Seifert and has a daughter, Lidia, 15.
