1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment

Command Sgt. Maj. James F. Seifert, Jr is from Fortson, Georgia. He enlisted in the United States Army as an 11B on 08 July 2003 where underwent OSUT and Airborne School at Ft. Benning, GA.

Seifert’s previous assignments include Company B, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Company D, Company C, 2nd BN 503rd Infantry (ABN), 173rd ABN BDE; Company A and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Ranger Training Battalion; Company B, C, and HHC, 2nd BN 23rd Infantry; HHC BDE 1/4ID; Observer Controller – Trainer (OC/T), Joint Multinational Readiness Center; HHC BDE, 54th BEB, 173rd ABN BDE.

Seifert has held every leadership position from Fire Team Leader to Platoon Sergeant in multiple Infantry Companies and the First Sergeant of Company C and Headquarters and Headquarters Company in Battalion and Brigade. Most recently served as the BDE OPS SGM for the 173d and currently, the CSM for 1-91 CAV (A); additionally, CSM Seifert has held positions as a Ranger Instructor, BN S3 Air, and OC/T.

Seifert’s deployments include five prior tours of duty to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VI, VIII, X, and XIII and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

Seifert’s military and civilian education includes BLC, ALC, SLC, MLC and SMC Class 73. He has also completed Airborne School, the U.S. Army Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Battle Staff NCO Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Tactical Certification Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Mountain Warfare School, Stryker Leader Course, OC Academy, and Combat Life Saver Course. He is currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Workforce Development.

Seifert’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (“V” Device), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), Presidential Unit Citation Award, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award (2 OLC), Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 SSS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon- 7th award, NATO Medal (1 BSS), Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Basic, Senior, and Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Italian and Chilean Parachutist Badge. He is also the recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice (Centurion).

Seifert is married to Viktoria Seifert and has a daughter Lidia (15).
