A Sky Soldier Visits 9/11 Memorial In Padova, Italy
173rd Airborne Brigade
Aug. 9, 2023 | 0:52
Sgt. Mathew Pous, a U.S. Army paratrooper assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade, stands in front of the 9/11 Memorial, informing paratroopers and families about its history in Padova, Italy, Sept. 8, 2023.

The memorial site consists of a 6 meter long steel beam, retrieved from the ruins of the World Trade Center. It is mounted in an architectonic glass structure which recalls an open book (mimicking the facades of the Twin Towers). The book is open in the direction of the Statue of Liberty in New York.

It serves as a reminder of the tragic events that took place in New York City on September 11th, 2001.

The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.
