U.S. Soldiers, Italian Red Cross Train Together in Hemorrhage Control
173rd Airborne Brigade
Jan. 9, 2025 | 1:52
VICENZA, Italy — Soldiers from the U.S. Army Reserve’s 2500th Digital Liaison Detachment, 7th Mission Support Command, teamed up with members of the Italian Red Cross to sharpen their hemorrhage control skills during a recent joint training exercise.
Set in a simulated combat environment, the exercise tasked participants with responding to a casualty suffering from life-threatening injuries. Equipped with joint first aid kits and tourniquets, the soldiers worked quickly to stop critical bleeding and stabilize the patient.
Spc. Gavin Hale, a combat medic with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, led the training, providing instruction to both U.S. and Italian participants. Hale highlighted the importance of immediate action in life-saving scenarios.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade serves as the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to U.S. European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed in Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains with NATO allies and partners to build relationships and strengthen the alliance.
